Industry insiders discuss who they want to win for the AKB48 5th Janken Tournament

17 Sep

The 5th AKB48 Janken Tournament will take place on the 17th September in Nippon Budoukan. Departing from traditions, the winner this year will get a solo debut instead of fronting the group’s next single. Industry professionals discuss the members they are looking out for to win this tournament.

NMB48 Yamamoto Sayaka

“She had experience as the vocal and guitarist for a girl’s band. If she makes a debut, there will be high expectations for her sales.Recently, she also made solo appearances in song festivals like “Ongaku no Hi” and “FNS Music Festival”, collaborating with veteran artistes. Her performance even earned praises from outside the fandom. People didn’t think there would be a girl like her.” – AKB personnel

AKB48 Kojima Haruna

Rumours of her graduating before the year is up has been flying around forever. Therefore industry professionals wish to see her win this tournament and make her solo debut.

“She has character and natural vocal abilities. Expectations for her sales will be there. However, she doesn’t seem to want it at all, because she said she’d rather sing Karaoke instead.” – Music-related personnel

Even though Kojima has received the all-clear sign from her agency and AKB48’s management to graduate anytime, she still seems undecided about her future goals.

“If she wins this tournament and gets a solo debut, perhaps she’ll want to become a solo singer.” – AKB personnel

Other members
SKE48 Furuhata Nao(17), NMB48 Yamauchi Tsubasa(14), and ex-singer/songwriter Sato Mieko from SKE48 were all mentioned by industry professionals, but unfortunately they have already been ousted during the preliminary rounds.

Which member indeed will win the chance of a lifetime?

I laughed when i read the part about Haruna preferring to sing Karaoke instead. Kojiharu has such a good voice it’s such a waste if she decides not to pursue a singing career. And if you are aware of this mobile app 755 which Akimoto sensei and the members are using nowadays to interact with their fans, you might have come across this talk about No3b’s future activities. As Miichan(or was it AkiP?) said, No3b’s comeback depends on Kojiharu’s mood. Guess we can’t expect too much.

” As Miichan(or was it AkiP?) said, No3b’s comeback depends on Kojiharu’s mood ” Miichan said that, AkiP said ask Kojima-san, but I wonder if that is true in No3b radio Kojiharu is always saying why they haven’t realised any single. Last year they didn’t realised anything because Miichan’s scandal, but well maybe this year there were some talks, but Kojiharu didn’t want I guess jajja

I think it’s a combination of Kojiharu’s busy career and Takamina’s upcoming single. Not a good time to be releasing No3b stuff now.

Anyway i always thought Kojiharu is overworked. She was looking really tired before sousenkyo period. Her solo career now is most like Mariko sama’s before she graduated. And Mariko said she only slept 3-4hrs during those days so you can imagine how much sleep Kojiharu is getting.
