AKB48 41st single “Halloween Night” music video and CD covers

1 Aug

I’ve added my thoughts now that the full mvs are out…

My biggest question is – what does a Halloween song got to do with dancing? Isn’t it more about ghouls and gore?Looking at this MV, all i see is a major attempt to revive the 80s disco craze with lyrics telling everyone to dance. The cosplay, the Halloweeny words seem to be there just for the sake of fitting the song title. I cannot even tell you how dumb i feel hearing this song.

Official Information about their roles in the MV:

Sashihara: Devil
Kashiwagi: Beastmaster
Mayu: French Doll
Takamina: Some cat
Jurina: Spider
Sayanee: Rider
Sakura: Piero
Miyazawa: Frankenstein
Shimazaki: Death God
Yui: Dracula
Kitahara: Pirate
Miyuki: Rabbit doll
Matsumura: Mummy
Akane: Maid
Shibata: Maid
Muto: Wolf

I have nothing nice to say about the staff PV as well. Everyone is boxed up in the studio decked out in similar shimmery clothes. Only the frontliners are showing some enthusiasm whilst the back rows are clearly awkward with this dance. This PV is so unconvincing when it comes to telling everyone to dance.

Dance tutorial for those interested, but for me, next single please!

I think that this is very good. It has a great throwback/retro sound. They perfectly capture that 1970s style disco sound, right down to that “boogie woogie” phrase.

Ear candy for a music historian !
I think I can speak with some expertise on the time period, as I lived through it.
Full disclosure: I was not big on disco when it was happening for the most part (that was me, the heavy metal kid in the “disco sucks” t shirt.) I have changed since then of course.

If only more disco was like this !

    : )

It’s a good disco song, very catchy! I love seeing the members’ costumes.
