Showbiz professionals talk about HKT48 Sashihara Rino’s attitude problems

26 Aug

During the 17th August episode of “UTAGE!”, there were scenes of Watanabe Mayu, Yamamoto Sayaka and Sashihara Rino talking about their graduation plans. Sashihara Rino(22) in particular has also been revealing the same thoughts to various media.

In the 17th August publication of “AERA”, said mentioned “It’s about time. But it’s not a situation where i can easily quit. People who have public recognition are disappearing everyday. I believe i’m one of the recognised ones, so i can’t quit now.”

Sashihara is one member who has been receiving a “gorilla push” since 2009, from her agency Ohta Pro and overall group producer Akimoto Yasushi. However, it was her scandal in 2012 which was the biggest contribution to her fame. Her relationship with a fan in 2012 was exposed by tabloids and she took the responsibility by moving to HKT48. After that, she used the scandal as a stepping stone to getting more exposure in the media.

“The fact that she jokes about her scandal in variety, and its gap from AKB’s most popular position made the media interested. But within these couple of years, people around Sashihara have been voicing their complains,” says one reporter.

“After the Sousenkyo, she skipped an interview with a sports newspaper and went off. The reporter was troubled. But because it was Sashihara, her managers found it difficult to say anything,” says same reporter.

Her “ue kara” attitude applies for TV interviews as well. (“ue kara” ~ diva)

“During the period when AKB was selling well, Maeda Atsuko(24) and Oshima Yuko(26) also had attitude problems towards magazine interviews. However, when it came to TV interviews, both were still conscious of the fact that they were receiving an “opportunity” and responded properly. But Sashihara, as if fearing nothing in this world, showed zero enthusiasm at a certain recording, giving off short responses like ‘yeah’,’yes’ and finally adding a cynical remark ‘by the way, can this really go on air?’ while sniggering away.” – Wide Show Director

About her snobby attitude, the Wide Show Director says “She thinks she’s Akimoto Yasushi’s favorite. People around her probably feel envious?”

In the ending of AERA’s interview, Sashihara apparently mentioned “Actually, i want to test my skills by graduating.” But will she be able to say the same when Akimoto Yasushi and the management drops her from their “favourites” list?

Meanwhile on GirlsChannel:

[+930] Please do (graduate)
[+1126] Please don’t.She’s ugly unlike the typical idol.
[+806] It’s fine if you quit.
[+791] As if nothing can be established without her. In a way, her way of thinking is sugoi.
[+738] Not everyone recognises you just because you ranked first. Some humility will be good.
[+582] Those who talk about quitting typically don’t.

Well, after you get popular trying to please everyone in the media doesn’t became a priority. Right know Sashira is enjoying a great time in AKBG, so I don’t know why she keeps mentioning that she may graduate, of course she is not why for ?? she doesn’t want to be a recognize singer or actress, being in AKB doesn’t affect any future plans for her.

Not sure what to make of this article but I’m inclined to believe it was written by butthurt antis who are still miffed by her smashing victory in this year’s election and just trying to ruin her reputation. Sasshi is not my oshi but she’s grown in my estimation over the past few years. In 2013, I was like “WTF?!” when she won, then I was forced to acknowledge her star power upon witnessing KFC achieve such unprecedented success. Now, I just read her second centered single Halloween Night has just become the highest selling non-voting single on first day. Given her successful run as center, I’ll concede that, while Sasshi may polarize fandoms, she’s what AKB needs right now.

I’ve never been one to care about sales numbers but Oricon is probably not what you should be looking at to gauge the success of a song. In the past I wrote about some EXILE brother group doing well cos they’d crossed the 500k mark on Oricon. Someone told me they gave out concert tickets in the CDs. Would u call that a success? We all know AKB does the same. The Japanese fandom call Halloween Night the single with the most toppings in history – 6 days handshake, 6 days autograph sessions and free tickets to janken matches. It’d be weird if sales don’t go up.

To gauge “real” success I’d say look at the digital charts like iTunes and Recochoku. Leo ieiri who sold only 20,000 copies of her single on Oricon last week is ironically winning over Halloween Night now.

Wow, this was very informative. I always looked at Oricon for everything, but it makes sense to look at Recochoku. The giving out concert tickets with the album package deal is something I remember Madonna doing with MDNA, it made it seem like her first week sales were huge, but the week after there was a huge drop.

Yea, if you look at digital charts you’ll probably find better music. The ost tracks that i like from jdramas don’t get highlighted on Oricon but are rightfully ranked digitally. Oricon is really just a platform for idol groups to get some headlines. For 48groups – “Another Million Seller!” and for Johnny’s – “Consecutive No.1! Guinness Record!”

I have grown to admire her recently.

Okay koisuru fortune cookie did well because the song is catchy and the dance moves are moves that even someone who can’t dance can do…Anyways sashihara has always had an attitude problem and I know because since I seen her in akbingo that is one of the reasons I could not stand her. She’s not pretty for idol standards, she can’t sing or dance, and I personally do not find her funny. Now for the scandal thing, that was just prove of how she does have favoritism from the management, If ppl didn’t notice it by then they they are truely blind. I mean takajo aki had to go to a different country learn a new language and everything because of her scandal while sashi just got made the center of a new group? wow what a punishment! Anyways same goes for Halloween Night the song is catchy …now for me sashihara is actually bringing akb down…now I LOVE mayuyu but even I know she doesn’t have what it takes to be center..There’s many girls that would make good aces but akimoto yasushi only cares about the money but if he was smarter he would try to change that effort in pushing sashihara to pushing one of the younger girls that has the potential..because lets be honest female idols have an exparation date… I think they should of pushed Sakura Miyawaki even more..she is cute and the camera loves her and her look would go with anything unlike mayu which seems more like the classy and elegant type..and well since you think sashi is such a good center because kfc and HW did well then tell me why does HKT have the lowest sales out of the sister groups? AKB does well because is AKB is liked by males and females and even though the wotas buy most of the cds and stuff ..after getting voting tickets and such they usually sell to other people so yea.. Ideally I would prefer Sayanee or Milky for center but they are not that young in idol terms and they are busy with nmb and I loooooooooooove NMB and I wouldn’t want it to wobble when they are doing so good right now but AKB really needs some help…I mean what people loved about the older girls were not just their looks but their personalitys…but sashihara just strikes me as fake…anyways her time has been up for a while..but is a true shame if akimoto truelly believes that akb would go down with the graduation of sashihara..I mean for god’s sake not even jurina says such things..and I am not a huge jurina fan but now she is one of the ppl that right now is essential..she gives it her all even if she is not in the best conditions..but sashihara words just show how she is full of herself and how she is trying to make it seem like they can’t do without her when Im pretty sure she is the one that needs akb and not the other way takamina!!that is a true loss and even then she doesn’t go saying stuff like this.. I do not see how people can deffend her attitude issues

Can’t say anything about digital sales but I fail to understand why they would be more meaningful than physical sales. Regardless, the most important fact is that the million streak was achieved in a single day and a new record was established. That’s the one thing fans will remember in the long term.
So yes, I deem Halloween Night a sucess. Even critically, I think the song has been generally well received in the AKB fandom. For Sasshi, who is at the forefront of this song, those numbers look great on her resume and no doubt that officially she will get some credit for this increase in sales. She’s not the only one responsible for it though but I’m willing to acknowledge her role in all this.
I remember that in 2013, disgruntled fans were talking about boycotting the 32nd single. Why do that other than for the sole purpose of spiting Sashihara who was serving as the center? If her single had broken the million streak, antis wouldn’t hesitate to dump all the blame on her (gotta admit I was in this group because I was a Yuko oshi). Sasshi-centered singles however have proven to be a success so I think I should give credit where credit is due.

People download songs because they like the song. Those who buy CDs at 10x the price like the goodies, not to mention in the case of AKB, wotas buy multiple copies so the actual number of listeners is much lower. I measure the success of a single by the number of people who actually listen to it, so Oricon chart will not convince me. Well if this song slays the Digital charts and Karaoke charts, and if people actually bother to do dance covers(not the corporations that have a business relationship with AkiP) then that’ll convince me.

Personally i also don’t credit the song on the centers. The concept of “centers” was invented by AKB48, the people who decided to credit a song based on centers are also AKB48 fans.To me it’s just silly because other idol groups produce hits and never credit it to a “center”. I prefer to credit the song based on the very basics – tune and lyrics.

So according to your standards, AKB songs are never popular except Heavy Rotation and Koi Suru Fortune Cookie.
The member who serves as the center feels the most pressure to make her song succeed. All the members who served as center have stated this. Sashihara can, at least, feel extremely pleased that she was at the center of one of the most popular songs.

      • allthingsjpop September 25, 2015 at 5:52 am #

Yes, but i’d say Ponytail and Kachuusha,Flying Get are also popular. Not sure if they match my standards in terms of digital, karaoke ranking, but based on their airtime in major music shows these past years, i’d categorise them as popular too.

I understand the importance of center position but as mentioned previously this is only a hype created and celebrated by 48 fans.People outside the fandom honestly don’t care.

You must hate her guts so much don’t you? I mean there’s no point to write anything about her when you hate sasshi so much since no matter how hard she work, or how success she’ll still hate her guts anyway.

    • allthingsjpop September 15, 2015 at 2:36 am #

If u want to think that Sasshi is perfect and has no bad press then don’t read it. The fact is there’s a lot of negative stuff published about her everyday and i only pick the most credible to translate. You don’t like it but others will appreciate it.

  5. Smartiesdoodle September 15, 2015 at 5:37 am #

Hm, nope you’re not wrong there’re even million stuff or negative comment produced like everyday to all of the member in AKB..but I just passed by this blog and so far, the worst organized critized articel are for I asked you that question you really hate her guts do you? you can simply say “yes I do” or “No, I’m not” I mean in what point I said she’s perfect -_-

    • allthingsjpop September 15, 2015 at 6:53 am #

The worst? You passed by my blog without reading my few years worth of postings and you readily judged that the worst articles are for Sasshi? Come on…

      • SariaFan February 15, 2016 at 3:37 am #

Who is the worst then? I actually browsed through your blog and it seems pretty clear to me that Sasshi is the most bashed 48member in your blog. And the unflattering articles about her increased significantly after her sousenkyo victories. Bash her all you want but I’d like to know who is the 48member or non 48member who has it worse than Sasshi as you seem to imply above. I failed to notice who it is.

      • allthingsjpop February 21, 2016 at 6:22 pm #

Please take the time to check the sources. I don’t write these articles, i translate them as seen on Japanese media. It increased after her victories because not everyone approves of her. I personally think that the worst articles around here are about Yamapi and Jin.
