On GirlsChannel: AKB48 Halloween Night sells 1.18million copies first day(Oricon Charts)

28 Aug

A Halloween Night thread has finally appeared on GirlsChannel.

[+1287] A song i’ve never heard of selling 1million..
[+894] Most the buyers are wotas and related people. In the end, the CDs become trash. This kind of record is meaningless.
[+774] Their appearances are decreasing and popular members have left, but the sales have gone up? Mystery~
[+760] A low value million seller. I’ve never heard of it.
[+741]That’s cos the wotas bought it all
[+705] In the past AKB was everywhere but not now. Where did the million go to? China? Outer space?
[+603] Did they put in some special handshake ticket?
[+523] When will AKB wotas get tired of this?
[+455] I hate this song!
[+408] Just when i thought they’ve lost their steam. I’ve come to think of this as a bad business practice.
[+403] So it had the most “toppings” in history. (Referring to bonus bundling.)
[+387] But i like Dragon Night more~
[+309] Because of AKB, the concept of “sales=popularity” is lost. Their sales can continue to rise but i’ll just think of it as the wotas buying it all up.

Please admit that it is a good single.

Also if the CD + DVD comes with that coupling music video song with the kimonos even better.

I was actually a little surprised with first day sales, when the HS tickets were to resale many popular members got 0 slots sold so thought they’d struggle a little to get 1M.

Anyway, girls channel is known to hate AKB so it’s not a surprised these comments. I don’t think the single will be as popular as KFC, but it is doing quite well digital and the single already sold 1M.

Well maybe they do hate AKB but there are alot of sensible comments and praises too. As i told someone here, the Oricon charts isn’t a accurate reflection of popularity. Leo Ieiri who sold only 20,000 of her single on Oricon last week is currently winning over HN on 2 digital charts. But i think it’ll take a couple weeks more and the Karaoke charts before we can see how popular it is.

~hehehe~ I bet Allthingsjpop just published this as a direct response to my previous posts. Well, I think we’re just observing a conflict of interest. Allthingsjpop just dislikes Sashihara way too much (which she’s perfectly entitled to do, especially since this is her blog) to see anything good about HN. Perhaps just remember that the 41st single isn’t all about Sashihara.
Undeniable fact is HN has been doing great, outperforming many of the recent non-voting singles, including Kibouteki Refrain which btw also had some bonus perks attached. I guess it will be a matter of time before it also surpasses UZA and Heart Ereki. That’s pretty amazing because, unlike KFC, there hasn’t been a lot of mainstream promotion for HN and HS tickets have been resold. That said, I don’t think it will reach the heights of KFC but it’s still too early. Let the Halloween season come and we’ll see.
Critical reception of HN has been generally positive in the english-speaking fandom at least. On stage48, reviews were initially mixed but after a while it grew on many people.
As for Girls channel, I don’t doubt there are some very negative reviews considering their usual attitude towards AKB. I can’t check on them myself since I don’t understand japanese but I have a hunch you only translated the negative comments.

I was going to post this anyways because it appeared on the top rankings. If you noticed i did not mention Sashihara at all in my music reviews.Though you might think that my dislike for her affected my review of this song, sorry but it’d be the same even if they changed the center. Well, i don’t think S48 is the best place to be looking for public reception to this song, because firstly they’re all fans and secondly, there are alot of Sasshi oshis commenting in it when they don’t participate in threads for other singles. At least, that’s what i observed. Although Girlschann is adverse towards AKB, i find their comments reasonable and believe me, i’ve already censored out the evil comments knowing Sasshi fans here will react. And actually there are no positive comments with enough upvotes to translate.

Your dislike for her did affect your review of the song somewhat, no matter how much you try to deny it. The proof? You said in one of the comments, I remember quite well, that you were tired of Koi Suru Fortune Cookie because Sasshi was the center and because it was performed endlessly. Here, I found it: https://allthingsjpop.wordpress.com/2014/08/11/news-roundup-for-akb48-group-summer-festival/
You couldn’t ignore your bias against the center before, I don’t see why you could do it now. In fairness, this happens to all of us, when we don’t like the center we have a predisposition to hate her song even before we hear it. I don’t like Jurina, I am not that fond of her janken single with the long title.

I don’t like Jurina that much, but i liked her janken single very much. I liked Yuko too, but i hated Heavy Rotation as much as KFC. Please respect my personal preferences.

Allthingsjpop does seem to go the extra mile in posting articles to show how “hated by the fans and general public” Sashihara centered songs are. Didn’t do any of that with for example kuchibiru (who broke the million a week streak) or kimi wa melody, etc. Let’s not mention the infamous kokoro no placard who is mocked even by akb fans due to the bayayaya chorus. Just a coincidence? lololol

You can’t expect me to post an article about public reception everytime a single comes up. I chose to write about the post sousenkyo single here because it appeared in the top rankings of GirlsChannel and it was a topic of interest at that point in time. If i didn’t post the same for other singles, it could be cos of lack of public interest and therefore no articles about it, or simply things slipping through my radar. You may not like what you read, but i make sure that these “negative” articles are ranked up there or written by somewhat credible sites before i translate.
