SNH48 16th EP “Princess’s Cloak”

6 Oct

The post sousenkyo single for SNH48 this year is piled with glamour as usual. This time the Top16 fly to Spain to film their new single “Princess’s Cloak”.

The song is a Spanish style EDM, composed by singer JJ Lin and produced by a U.S team who has worked with the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.

The full MV will be released Mid October.

Preview of MV:

Live Performance:

My thoughts: The skirt swirling is nice but it does not look that Spanish-like. I wonder if it’s a problem with their dancing. I love JJ Lin’s songs but EDM just doesn’t work for me. Either way,the concept itself is already 100 times better than what 48Group delivers nowadays!

I cannot resist adding these beautiful stills of Kiku. She looks stunning in blonde!

Love Trip is a really good song imo and the cd covers are breathtakingly gorgeous. The other A-side Shiawase was a nice but unremarklable song, just way too slow for me even if the PV is eye-catching with the wedding theme. Anyway, it’s the best 48G single in a very long time, since Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai. I really hope Paruru gets a great song again as a farewell gift.

I think Love Trip was overall a bad single not even worth mentioning. Title song – bland and shameful dancing/singing from center. Wedding song – concept recycled X times. Bokutachi was more eyecatching since they spent big bucks hiring the Rurouri Kenshin team to film the MV and the song lyrics closely referred to the Sousenkyo spirit. Nowadays they are just releasing songs for the companies which sponser their singles. Meaningless for the fans.

Pity you didn’t like Love Trip but it’s impossible to please everyone. Tie-in songs or not, judging by the majority of the comments, the 48G fandom overall was very happy with the 45th single. The only complaint I read most often was about the recycled costumes but that’s pretty minor. At least, it’s not KFC 4.0 and the center was allowed to spread her wings.

Now, I can’t wait to see Paruru’s single.

SNH48’s Princess’s Cloak is musically average. You can see they spent a big budget on the PV, but the promotion of bullfighting of all things puts me off completely.

What i noticed – many fans including myself have left the fandom after Sousenkyo. Of cos those who are still clinging on(maybe they are new fans) would be intrigued by Love Trip.
SNH48’s Princess’s Cloak imo is really what 48Group should be switching to in terms of Quality and Concept and Music. Even if i didn’t like the music this time, the very fact that they are inviting other singers to produce for SNH48 is enough to make it exciting. 48Group on the other hand, has been stuck in an endless era of high school concept videos, high school level MVs, and AkiP’s uninspiring music.

        I liked love trip….

this snh release is pretty bland and the choreo needs work but they’ll soon find their own sound.
